Brett Moreau, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Director of Data Science

Gregory "Brett" Moreau joined TUMI in May 2020 as a data scientist and recently was promoted to Assistant Professor of Research in the Department of Medicine, Division of infectious Diseases. He obtained his Microbiology PhD from the University of Virginia in 2018 while working with Dr. Barbara Mann and continued his training in bioinformatics and omics data analysis with Dr. Bill Petri in the Division of Infectious Disease and International Health. As a postdoctoral researcher in the Petri lab, Brett was interested in identifying the metabolic pathways associated with impaired childhood development and determining how these pathways are influenced by factors such as nutritional deficiency, chronic inflammation, or disruption of the host microbiome.

His current work focuses on applying statistical techniques to large metabolic and microbiome data sets from a variety of research projects funded via TUMI, the NIH, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and other funding institutions. Brett's ultimate goal is to help investigators identify metabolic and microbial signatures that may serve as potential biomarkers or targeted therapeutics.
